Last Thursday, I baked a large EXTRA LARGE batch of choc-chip cupcakes for the gorgeous preschool children that I've been working with for the past month as a volunteer worker. It is so lovely to see such animated, lively children who adores you as much as you adore them - of course, keeping within the standards of the child protection policy. And what's even more lovely is seeing them grow and mature - taking every little bit of knowledge. And it just reminds you that one can do so much if you try.
Well, it's been a long time since I've baked. And it took me from 3:00PM to midnight to get all the baking and icing done. That excludes the time spent cleaning up. Gosh, thinking about me makes me feel tired. But having seen the children enjoying the cupcakes with such happy delight the following day pretty much makes the whole process priceless. ^-^

I wish I had remembered to buy those patty things to hold the cupcakes. But then again, I don't want three year olds choking on paper. lol.

And after baking, you just gotta test them out and play with your food regardless of whether your mum likes it or not...
And ooh, what's a cupcake without some icing...?? Still a cupcake I guess since I'm not a fan of icing. But good gosh, children love it and supposedly, yes I hate to brag but I must, I make really really good icing. =D

Are you craving for some sweetness? Some sweet cupcakes perhaps? ^-^
Lots of love, Cotton Candy.

STRAW HAT WITH BLACK BOW, HAND ME DOWN FROM AUNTIE H
Finally. It's stopped raining - The glorious sun had finally came out from behind the clouds today...
I've been seeing everyone in the northern hemisphere wearing such lovely summer dresses and I've been growing quite jealous. I do like Winter and yes, it's just the waking up in the morning that icks me about Winter ... but oh, summer dresses...So when I woke up to the warm brilliance of sunshine, well...that just gave me an excuse to wear a summer dress over a light sweater.
So , all I did today was just bask under the sunshine, absorbed in a wonderful and classic read. I had woken up early in the morning, enjoyed a refreshing jog around the block (since I've gained 4kg from binge eating during the exam due to stress ><" my my), ate breakfast of egg and toast and finally, in the afternoon, basked in the glorious sun...with tea and a time of re-read: my all time favourite book, 'Good Wives' written by Louisa M.Alcott.

Mum then bought out sliced hot dogs which I insisted be eaten from dainty dishes. Lovely. And then of course, I served ice-cream no less. Mmm...yummy yummy. I've been craving for ice cream all week long. Daddy bought it home yesterday night and now, it's in my tummy. Yayes to ice cream!! It makes me feel so sweet inside.

I hope you are feeling as sweet as I am inside. ^^

Lots of love, Cotton Candy.

The jukebox plays my song:"Bleeding Love" {eng}Leona LewisOmgosh, I just realised it's been six days since I've posted. Hahaha, how time goes by so quickly and can you believe it - Christmas has passed and a new year awaits!!! =D I'm so excited and I do hope that the new year will bring lots of joy to everyone!
I want to thank everyone for their support and love to this blog this year! Thank you!! ^^ And hopefully there will be more suprises and whimsical delights to share in this blog. Meanwhile, I have so many
new year resolutions that I would like to make...and keep ^.~ ...
- to be organised
- to be time-disciplined
- to exercise ... (at least once a week)...
- to lose weight
- earn and save lots of money
- to spend more time with family
- learn how to cook
The last resolution had been a resolution for 2007 but lol, well...things don't always go to plan and for some reason, cooking hasn't really ever appealed to me. I think it's because I'm lazy. I would gladly eat for you but cooking??....(o'.'o) Hahaha!! During September til October, I had been the one in charge of cooking as my mum and dad had gone to Shanghai for their 20th anniversary. My gosh, my middle sister complained and complained about how I sucked at cooking. The first time I had forgotten to put salt in one of the dishes, I burnt something in the oven - I think it was beef? And oh, that's right, there was the time when I burnt rice too - in a rice cooker. No I'm not exaggerating - I just happened to have added too little water... lol. So, in the end, even though my sister had her exams, she cooked and I just waited for the food to come out. Til this day, my sister won't let me forget about my awful cooking skills and my mum continuously nags me about learning how to cook and how I won't be able to cook for my future husband and what will I do and etc etc etc. The nagging goes on. lol.Oh dear me.
But I have finally learnt how to cook...(o'.'o) Well, for starters, I've just learnt how to make mango cheesecake and mango pudding all thanks to my friend Florence who came to my place on Thursday. She knows how much I adore mangoes (and who doesn't? =p) and since it's mango season - well...MMMM!!! =D I'll start with desserts before I go to the main course?
Here's a simple reciple for Mango Pudding and trust me, it only takes 10 minutes at the most!!
Ingredients:
- 2 packets of jelly powder (mango flavoured)
- 2 -3 large mangoes
- 1 can of evaporated milk
- 500mL hot water
- 250mL cold water
- 1 teaspoon of gelatine
Method:- Add 2 packets of jely powder and 500mL of hot water into a bowl. Stir.
- Add 250mL of cold water into the bowl and then stir again.
- Add 1 can of evaporated milk into the bowl. Stir the mixture
- Scrape 2-3 mangoes into the bowl
- Stir the mixture until even
- Add 1 teaspoon of gelatine into the bowl
- Stir mixture until smooth

- Pour mixture into small bowls/cups
- Place in fridge until it sets
And ta-da!! Mango Pudding!! That's all it takes.
I think part of the reason why I don't like cooking/baking very much is the mess it creates and the cleaning up afterwards. Urk. But one thing that I love about cooking is the smell of food, the anticipation and on a frivolous note: aprons. Love cute little aprons and I think I ought to go buy some aprons that will motivate me to cook. xD And guess what, I found an awesome site: Jessie Steele, that has these great and gorgeous aprons that will put you into cooking/baking mode!
Bib Ava Pink Paris Apron:
And look! Matching pot mitts!! Reminds me of strawberries.
Bib Ava 50s Kitchen Apron:
Bib Josephine Traditional Snowflake Apron which looks just like a dress.
Half Ava Table Rose Apron:
Bib Chef's Onyx Apron:

Children's Bib Ava Hearts Apron:
Half Ava Retro Cherries Apron:
Bib Ava Peony Stripe Apron:

So...anyone up for cooking? =D
And with 8 more minutes until NYE, I want to wish everyone a:
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
MAY ALL YOUR WISHES COME TRUE!!
Lots of love, Cotton Candy.

"I apologize" {eng}
K-Ci
Urk...Unfortunately I've been really sick last week and still feeling the blues, from a terrible cold on Monday afternoon to a high-fever yesterday night. ><" Oh the blues! And with grandpa in hospital still unconcious after surgery, things just don't seem to be going too well at the moment... And the most worrying thing is my mum's health as she's been so tired and stressed lately from running to and fro; trying to take care of everyone in the family. I feel so grateful for my mum in every way and it's at times like these when you realise how special a person is. =] So I'm telling myself to get better real soon.
Well, I'm optimistic and hope things will be better before Christmas. ^^
And so you're wondering why on earth am I blogging if my terrible headache is torturing me and if my face is flushing bright pink right now. lol. Well, I've been sleeping for practically 5 days straight and although still quite tired, I'm itching to do something. So here I am taking advantage of my cousin's laptop (while she's here) and lying flat on my bed typing away whilst trying to catch up with the continuous spinning of the world. =D And lol, I had begun this post at 2:27 pm but I ended up falling alseep and here I am again at 5:48 pm. Supposedly, as my cousin said, she had to save her laptop before I dribbled on the keyboard. But I don't think I drool when I'm asleep. . . do I?...
But I say, you can't blame me for drooling when all I've been eating for the last few days is plain congee and a little bit of salt to make it taste better. That's right, congee for breakfast, lunch and dinner. ><" I'm craving for spice - something yummy and delicious to will satisfy my taste buds and boy, wouldn't I love to be
Katja Gruijters right now or perhaps even, Katja Gruijters' food taster.
Katja Gruijters is a food and drink designer. "She designs products, spots consumer trends and develops concepts for companies around human desires" and that one inevitable human desire is food! And oh, that's a huge desire I have now!!!

A series of edible Ander Kant: lace tiles made of chocolate, confetionery, shortbread and shortcrust pastry. MMM...Please, just decorate my kitchen with these tiles.

Pom de Friet. I have no idea what this food is apart from the fact that Pom is real Surinamese party food. But nevermind what it is, I'm ready to eat it especially when it looks like french fries in (ice cream) cones. How cute!! =D

Chrysanthemum tea in China. Violet ice cream in France. Add a these two to cherry blossoms and then a few handful of herbs such as rosemary and thyme and what do we get? Who says floweres aren't edible?

Katja made use of leftover Easter eggs to make these cookies with a marble-effect. Flavours: thyme, cranberry and ginger. Don't they just look gorgeous although I do have to say, my mum wouldn't be too pleased with me if I ate these whilst I am sick or even if I'm not sick. . .
And of course, fashion and design is inseparable. . .
Thus, the result is
Fashion Food. Eastern rolls, Dutch delights, Tuscany stripes and breadbags galore! Spots, stripes and checks are the new black.
Oh how my tummy craves for all these food and more!
That's it, I'm going to go eat a bowl of congee regardless if it's tasteless. xD And my eyes hurt real bad from staring at the computer screen so I'll shall end this post now.
Keep yourselves safe and warm. Try not to catch a cold!
^-^
Hugs and kisses, Cotton Candy.

The jukebox plays my song:"Like you'll never see me again" {eng}Alicia Keys
Mmmm, I smell mushrooms. lol!! But that's not what I'm going to rant on about in this post perhaps later. xD LOL.
A few nights ago, to celebrate the end of first year of uni, I caught up with four of my bestest (if there is such a word =p) friends from high school whom I miss so much and love dearly: Corrina, Serena, Danmei and Jenifer over a night-out at the city. And oh, such fun to eat and chat about new times as well as old times, reminscing whilst catching up on all sorts of info especially since I'm the only one that goes to USYD whilst the rest go to UNSW! Food brings people together. ^.~ We decided to eat out at Wagamama, a japanese restaurant that we heard was not worth it and the food not too great. lol! So why did we choose such a place? Ahhh- to try out new stuff for you never know and indeed, we never knew until that night. It was actually pretty okay, the food and all, however it quite expensive though. We ordered green tea (because it was freeeee!! lol!!) but we never got it and we ended up with water only - how disappointing. ><" But the atmosphere was nice and I think that that is one of the most important factors for a restaurant, don't you think?

Aaah...it seems that whenever I talk about food, my tummy rumbles. lol!! ^.~ And how can you not when you've got food staring at you?? lol!! Oh dearest me. No wonder why my youngest sister says I'm ballooning into a huge buffalo pie. . . =.="
After gobbling down our dinners, what's a better way then to eat dessert and so off we treaded into the night as I insisted on ice cream at
Darling Harbour. And it was a good thing that we decided to, lol, because it made us walk our full bellies off although Danmei wasn't too pleased. lol!! I said it was good for her and the scenary at the harbour is oh-so-beautiful at night. How can one resist? lol. So we treked for quite a distance and in the end, Danmei finally got her revenge back at me by not staying with me to watch the fireworks. *cries* But about that later. Oh dear, it seems as if a storm is about to brew tonight at my place. I hear thunder and oh, I just saw lightning. I get so afraid that my comp will suddenly flicker and then crash when there are storms but I love the feeling of staying all cosy and warm inside whilst the rain pitter-patters outside. Don't you love that feeling. And then I always wish for a blackout as an excuse to do everything in candlelight and just ooze away on the couch, daydreaming about silly little fantasies. HAHAHAHA!! Oh gosh, I've gone off topic again. Forgive me. ^-^

The ice cream parlour that I wanted to go to was on the other side of the harbour and noone wanted to trek across the harbour with me. ><" What friends, lol!! I forgive you guys. So we found another one on our side and oh, gelato in raspberry flavour is sooo nice!! And oh, just eating ice cream whilst looking out into the harbour and chatting is such a wonderous, lovely feeling don't you think? I'm so easy to please. lol!! It was lovely indeed. I remember Serena becoming thirsty afterwards and she figured out we should just go to a bar nearby and order water. lol!! Do you think it would be strange if we sat at a table at a bar and just ordered water and then left? Perhaps I should try it one day if I have enough nerve and then I'll tell you all about it. So we ended up going to Maccas to order water for it's free. ^-^ You should have heard us that night. We wanted everything to be free and we had used that word so much that night. You must think we're "tight-asses" but I've got an excuse, we're poor uni students. lol! ^.~ kekeke.
But for now, I think I will go off and try to finish reading 'The Old Curiosity Shop' by Charles Dickens whilst listening to the pitter-patter of the rain. And perhaps, some music and a glass of milk. Care to join me? ^-^
Hugs & kisses, Cotton Candy.
